Visitor Services Associates

The Museum of Contemporary Art seeks part-time Visitor Services Associates to welcome visitors, sell museum admission and membership, and provide information about exhibitions, programs, and Chicago tourism.

Cash-handling and prior customer service experience required. Knowledge of art history and a language in addition to English preferred. Must be able to interact with the general public and possess the ability to multi-task. Schedules are 20-25 hours per week and may include weekend, evening, and holiday hours.

Preparators

The Museum of Contemporary Art seeks to maintain a pool of qualified Preparators for periodic employment to assist with the installation and de-installation of scheduled exhibitions at the museum and to assist the Preparators Department with non-exhibition activities.

Documented prior art handling experience required. Minimum one year museum preparation experience preferred. Wall framing, sheathing and painting skills and familiarity with carpentry shop tools highly desired. Other manual skills are also noted. Individuals must have the ability to safely lift up to sixty pounds and general mobility throughout the building is required. Must also be comfortable working at elevated heights when required and possess aptitudes for quick learning, problem solving and above all, teamwork. Individuals must be available to work for periods ranging from one day to several weeks, Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm, as well as some weekend and evening hours as needed. Work opportunities are generally announced one month in advance although some exceptions may occur.

Gallery Officers

The Museum of Contemporary Art seeks individuals with security, art and/or customer service experience for part-time Gallery Officer positions. Gallery Officers are MCA representatives and are part of a dynamic contemporary art environment. Officers monitor galleries, public areas and offices. Responsibilities include maintaining current knowledge of museum facilities and program offerings and providing appropriate information to staff and visitors.

Job involves standing and walking for extended periods of time, as well as other security-orientated functions. A commitment of at least 24 hours per week is required, including evening and weekend hours. Gallery Officer positions are entry-level. Seasonal applications will be considered.

Coatroom Attendants

The Museum of Contemporary Art seeks part-time Coatroom Attendants to check coats and bags, set up and maintain an orderly coat check, maintain Lost and Found, stock public areas with printed MCA materials, and provide customer service during public hours and at a variety of special events. Coatroom Attendants are representatives of the MCA and must be able to provide up-to-date and accurate information about MCA exhibitions and events.

Previous customer service experience required. Art background preferred. Ability to speak and understand a language in addition to English is an asset. Must be prompt, dependable, and able to stay in coatroom for extended periods of time. This position requires general mobility throughout the building, reaching, bending, and the ability to safely lift fifty pounds. Schedules are flexible and may include weekend day shifts as well as weekend and/or weekday evening shifts.

Box Office Associate

The Museum of Contemporary Art seeks Box Office Associates to assist with box office operations. Responsibilities include greeting and directing visitors; answering general questions; selling museum admissions, memberships, and tickets to education programs, special events, and performances. Other duties include tracking ticket sales and maintaining lists for will-call.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and word/data processing skills. Art background and/or box office experience is preferred. Applicants must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
