Phantom Limb Gallery Talk: John Henderson and Paul Cowan in conversation with Michael Darling

In conjunction with the exhibition Phantom Limb: Approaches to Painting Today, artists John Henderson and Paul Cowan engage in conversation with James W. Alsdorf Chief Curator Michael Darling, on contemporary artists’ skepticism about the painterly gesture and the handmade.
John Henderson was born in Minneapolis and currently lives in Chicago. He received his B.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and an M.F.A. from Northwestern University. In 2011, Henderson presented solo exhibitions at the T293, Naples, Italy; abc – Art Berlin Contemporary, Berlin, Germany; The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago; and Golden, Chicago. In addition to being included in Phantom Limb, upcoming exhibitions include groups shows in New York at Family Business, D’Amelio Gallery, and Wallspace Gallery. Henderson has been included in publications such as Artforum, Mousse Magazine, and Time Out Chicago.
Paul Cowan was born in Kansas City and currently lives and works in Chicago. He received his BFA from Milwauke Institute of Art & Design and an MFA from University of Illinois at Chicago. Exhibitions include Clifton Benevento in New York, Shane Campbell in Chicago, Young Art in Los Angeles, James Cohan in New York, Golden Age in Chicago, Michael Jon in Miami, and Green Gallery in Milwaukee. In addition to being included in Phantom Limb, upcoming exhibitions include a solo show at Clifton Benevento in New York and a group show at Shane Campbell in Chicago.
