Mark Jeffery, a Chicago-based performance/installation artist, curator, and educator at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, discusses the concepts of performance, participation, and communication in Amalia Pica’s work.

Mark Jeffery is Assistant Professor in Performance at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since 1993, Jeffery has developed unconventional collaborations with visual artists, scholars, video artists, sound artists, new media and code artists, dancers, choreographers, curators, and writers. His works often involve public participation. 

He is curator of the IN>TIME performance series, which is hosted by multiple venues in Chicago, as well as several other curatorial projects around Chicago. Jeffery was a former member of the internationally renowned Goat Island Performance Group (1996–2009), which performed at the MCA in 2008. He collaborated and performed in five of Goat Island’s works, touring and teaching extensively across North America and Europe.
