Exploring dialogue through Pandora’s Box: Joseph Cornell Unlocks the MCA Collection
Facilitated by Annie Heckman and Krista Franklin

Joseph Cornell infused everyday objects with a poetic magnetism that has continued to inspire contemporary artists. This workshop focuses on the works in Pandora’s Box alongside Krista Franklin’s approach to contemporary mythmaking as a way of building rich visual interactions through collage and storytelling, what she describes as giving ‘heart and backbone’ to some of the issues we face on a daily basis through the development of our own mythical characters. How can we use the tools of visual storytelling to infuse our classrooms with a relevant creative alchemy?  In what ways can contemporary art offer transformative approaches to the hopes and fears we face together with our students in everyday life? Explore these ideas through rich gallery dialogue and hands-on studio work in this three-hour workshop.
