The MCA joins the Chicago Dancing Company in presenting the 4th annual free summer festival of new and classic dance with large concert programs at the Harris Theater and Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, and an Artists Up Close talk and demonstration at MCA Stage.

The Dancing Skyline focuses on the themes of architecture and dance, featuring a conversation with prominent Chicago architect Dirk Denison and choreographer and Dancing Festival co-artistic director Lar Lubovitch. The converstaion is moderated by noted dance writer and critic Lucia Mauro and includes performances of relevant dance pieces:

• New York City Ballet guest artists Wendy Whelan and Craig Hall in the pas de deux from Agon by George Balanchine

• Lar Lubovitch Dance Company guest artists Katarzyna Skarpetowska and Brian McGinnis in Vita Nova by Lar Lubovitch

About the Artists:

The Chicago Dancing Company (CDC) was founded by internationally renowned choreographer and native Chicagoan Lar Lubovitch and highly esteemed Chicago dancer Jay Franke as a nonprofit organization whose mission is to present a wide variety of excellent dance and to build audiences for dance in Chicago. The Chicago Dancing Festival is an annual event that premiered in 2007 as the first initiative of the Chicago Dancing Company.

• New York City Ballet guest artists Wendy Whelan and Craig Hall will perform the pas de deux from Agon by George Balanchine
• Kanji Segawa will perform Takademe by Robert Battle
• Royal Ballet guest artists Leanne Benjamin and Ed Watson will dance Qualia by Wayne MacGregor
• Archival dance film will also be featured

Modern Masters, August 26
At the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph Drive
This free performance of repertoire by contemporary master choreographers features:
• The Joffrey Ballet
• New York City Ballet guest artists Wendy Whelan and Craig Hall in Liturgy by Christopher Wheeldon
• Juilliard School Dance Ensemble in Last Look by Paul Taylor
• Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in Coltrane’s Favorite Things by Lar Lubovitch
• Alvin Ailey guest artist Samuel Lee Roberts in In/Side by Robert Battle
• Mark Morris Dance Group in V by Mark Morris

Celebration of Dance, August 28

At the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park
The Chicago Dancing Festival culminates with a free performance under the stars. The programming features an all-star lineup of dancers from some of the country’s most acclaimed dance companies:
• Ballet West in Serenade by George Balanchine
• Alvin Ailey II in The Hunt by Robert Battle
• Royal Ballet guest artists Leanne Benjamin and Ed Watson in the pas de deux from Manon by Sir Kenneth MacMillan
• Mark Morris Dance Group in Grand Duo by Mark Morris
• The Joffrey Ballet
